You’ll be able to tell pretty much right away whether or not this is for you. Rezzett is like a sick joke between two otherwise gainfully-employed producers to see how far they can ride a trope that many artists previously latched onto and discarded within a matter of months, only Rezzett have been at it for nearly 5 years (holy shit!) and are churning out some of the most perverse and sinister out-dance music in recent memory. It doesn’t hurt that they’ve got the uncanny visual prowess of ex-Mo Wax designer Will Bankhead handling the bulk of their records via his illustrious Trilogy Tapes imprint. If you’ve been following along with their output to date, the Rezzett LP won’t come as much of a surprise, as the duo have branched out from the scorched techno of 2013’s Fire Bomb 12” to putting their blown-out spin on jungle, dancehall, downtempo, and now even grime and dubstep. I spend most of the duration of a Rezzett track trying to imagine what it sounded like before the boys pushed the giant red “Rezzett” button on it. In another life “Hala,” “Longboat” and “Sexzzy Creep” may have even been high-charting deep house anthems, but in this one they’ve been left out to rust and are reserved especially for us freaks. LP1 winds down with the saltwater monk chant of “Yunus In Ekstasi,” and LP2 is where the going gets weird, starting with the humid DMZ lurch of “Wet Bilge” before moving swiftly into the polyrhythmic juke of “Tarang,” and the Eskidance white label stylings of Gremlinz is all battery-acid-soaked gunfingers. The end credits start to roll on the unsettling staccato of “Worst Ever Contender,” building and building before suddenly turning the corner into total jungle rollage and you realize it was always going to end this way. Limited edition double vinyl pressing is on the pricey side but like all TTT releases it s a labor of love, and one you ll want to keep forever. Comes in high-gloss textured sleeve with giant double-sided foldout poster. Recommended!
