A Different Kind of Tension is the third album by The Buzzcocks, considered at the time by Rolling Stone to be “their most formidable record yet”. This album features the lineup of (the late, great) Pete Shelley, Steve Diggle (who wrote a few tunes), Steve Garvey, and John Maher, and is again produced by Martin Rushent (The Stranglers, The Human League). Sonically, it runs the gamut from their earliest singles to a teaser of their later, more experimental work both as a group and solo artists. “Hollow Inside” is a scrappy bass riff and shimmering post punk guitars, “A Different Kind of Tension” is rat-tat-tat marching band drums and robotic call-and response vocals. “You Say You Don’t Love Me” would fit neatly with the tracks from Singles Going Steady, “Mad, Mad Judy” is an angular rock and roll stomper. The audio has been freshly remastered from the original 1 4” tapes, and includes a 12×12 booklet with photos and lyrics. The LP is pressed on opaque yellow vinyl and comes in a custom inner sleeve with rounded corners.
