Days of the Bagnold Summer is a tender and humorous coming of age film adapted from a graphic novel by Joff Winterhart. The soundtrack features 11 new tracks by Glaswegian indie legends Belle & Sebastian in addition to re-recorded versions of catalog classics “Get Me Away From Here I m Dying,” (originally appearing on 1996 s If You’re Feeling Sinister) and “I Know Where The Summer Goes” (a bit of a rarity, hailing from 1998 s This Is Just a Modern Rock Song EP). “Sister Buddha” starts the disc with instrumental acoustic warmth, leading into “I Know Where The Summer Goes”, a neat slice of sunny, organ-driven indie pop. “Safety Valve” includes tasteful violin slashes, “Wait And See What the Day Holds” is one of the more minimalist downtempo tunes here, Stewart Murdoch’s voice fading to a near whimper. The album ends with the piano-led “We Were Never Glorious”, with muted, heavenly vocals and a full array of chamber pop instrumentation. This record is packaged in a reverse board gatefold sleeve and includes full album lyrics.
