Early demos from Desert Rock pioneers Yawning Man. The Birth Of Sol – The Demo Tapes was originally recorded between 1986 and 1987 but did not see any proper release until 2009. These are the earliest tracks from the band, recorded direct to four track cassette in their La Quinta, CA garage. Their distinctive blend of metal, punk, blues and psyche rock would be a heavy influence on what became Palm Desert s desert rock scene. The songs feature repetitive drum beats and grinding riffs, and were often extended into long jams when played live. Yawning Man would frequently roll up to spots like the legendary Nude Bowl (pictured on the cover), unload their van, setup their instruments and generators, and start jamming away. Informed by the spirit of improvisation and creative freedom, the band grew out of the dying mid-80s SoCal punk scene. Psychedelics, along with the desert itself, bear a heavy influence on the band s now iconic sound. Twenty-three tracks in all. Released by Cobraside Distribution Inc. on white double vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve.
