Warren Kroll and Steven Lutes are High Tides. Paradise Daze is the duo s second full-length, and just like its self-titled 2015 debut, it was recorded entirely under the influence of Hawaiian shirts and conch shell necklaces. Musical escapism at its finest, the record channels a lot of influences—Beach Boys, Underworld, 80s pop, 90s IDM, classic dub—into a chillwave downtempo framework: if Boards of Canada sipped a Sex on the Beach spiked with codeine, you might get something vaguely similar… Expect a ton of bright synths, drum machine work full of drugged funk, and a piercing sense of melancholy that runs about the entire project.
