An Italo classic with an interesting back story if there ever was one. Originally recorded in 1983 by Italo producer Roberto Ferrante, Come On Closer features vocals that have a surprisingly decent American accent for an Italian record. They re voiced by Douglas Roop, a soldier from Texas who was stationed at a NATO base in Naples, Ferrante s home town. It became a hit in Italy and France upon its release, and eventually made it to Chicago s WBMX where DJs like Mickey Oliver made it an essential part of the early house scene. Over the years it has become an essential part of any respectable Italo fan s collection. But with original pressings fetching upwards of $200, it was slightly unattainable. Thankfully it s been repressed! And if it sounds a little familiar to you, you may recognize it as the sample source Neon Indian s Psychic Chasms. Released by La Discoteca on limited edition black vinyl. Recommended.
