1970 performance from minimal music composer Steve Reich. Berkeley University Museum 11 07 70 captures Reich s return to the San Francisco Bay Area. He d previously studied at Mills College with Luciano Berio and Darius Milhaud, and performed the 1964 world premiere of Terry Riley s seminal In C at the San Francisco Tape Music Center. The four pieces featured here – Four Organs, My Name Is, Piano Phase, and Phase Patterns – are prime examples of Reich s early experimentation with phasing and tape manipulations. They deal with repetition and subtle rhythmic change. Released by modern silence on numbered, limited edition transparent red vinyl.
